Backyard Birdathon 2021

Help us make a home for birds!

Backyard Birdathon is returning this year in conjunction with our chapter Birdathon fundraiser and we would love for you to participate!

May 8 is World Migratory Bird Day, as well as the Global Big Day of birding -- the perfect day to observe and listen to the birds near your home. You may hear the beautiful song of the white-throated sparrow or spy a Baltimore oriole.

To participate in Backyard Birdathon, record birds you observe in your yard or neighborhood May 8 or 9 via the eBird app, and use the app to email your checklist to us. (If you do not wish to use eBird, you can also email us your checklist directly.)

Your results will be included in the final tally of birds reported by everyone participating in Backyard Birdathon, as well as those reported by expert birders at our sanctuaries for our more traditional Birdathon.

This final tally will be applied to pledges made by Birdathon donors. Funds raised through Birdathon support our programs to protect and restore birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through education and action.

Donate or Pledge

Please sponsor our Birdathon birders by making a donation. Please make sure to indicate “Birdathon” in the Additional Information field so we direct your donation to the right place.

Alternatively, you can pledge to donate an amount for every bird species Birdathoner see or hear, for example, $1 or $2 per bird (last year, Birdathoners observed 87 species). After Birdathon, we will contact you with the final tally of species observed so that you can complete your donation.
