Join us for our next webinar, Things that go ZEEP in the Night: Unraveling the Mysteries of Nocturnal Bird Migration, on Wednesday, April 19, at 7 p.m.
In 2021, Andy Wilson recorded nocturnal migrants from his backyard in Frederick for the entirety of the spring and fall migration cycles. The results exceeded expectations, with almost 100,000 birds of more than 120 species recorded, including several species that are rare in western Maryland. In this Making a Home for Birds webinar, Andy will talk about the methods used for nocturnal flight recording and discuss some of the surprising rarities detected and fascinating seasonal patterns shown by the commoner migrants.
About the Presenter: Andy has been a birder since age nine, encouraged by his parents and an elementary school teacher in his hometown of Sheffield England. After working with the British Trust for Ornithology for 10 years, Andy came to the U.S. to attend graduate school at Penn State, where he earned a PhD in ecology. He was the data analyst and lead editor of the 2nd Atlas of Breeding Birds in Pennsylvania and has helped analyze data for the Ohio and West Virginia bird atlases. He has taught in the Environmental Studies department at Gettysburg College for 10 years and lives in Frederick with his wife and 7-year old twins.
Registration is required to attend the webinar. Registration is free, but donations are welcome.
